Gimme The Loot @ SXSW Day 1
Today was awesome! Ty, Meeko, Katie, and I arrived and promptly went to Whataburger. Later in the morning we had the cops called on us for trying to rack coffee in the filmmaker lounge! For lunch I went with Adam and Natalie to Troublemaker Studios where Robert Rodriguez gave an inspiring speech about learning from mistakes and the importance of risk taking. In the evening we were joined by Dominic, Kishori, her sister, and Joey Bats for a great dinner at Hut’s Hamburgers. Afterwards, Jon Miller arrived and we capped the night with drinks at the opening night party. Saturday is our world premiere and we are all excited. I’m loving Texas. Love Sam.
Gimme The Loot @ SXSW Day 2 & 3 & 4
Hi this is Sam Soghor resident “guru” (-Adam Leon) of the Gimme The Loot team. We have had an amazing last few days. Our world premiere at the State Theater was spectacular - a packed house and tons of good vibes. Me, Ty, Meeko, Jon, and Katie have been staying on Augusta street and we had a nice dinner before heading over to meet Tashi and then make our way to the “red carpet”. I started to get choked up on the drive. I was just thinking about how everyone involved on this project worked hard and now we’re enjoying the fruits of our labor. But Adam and Ty made great comments in the Q & A sessions about how production wasn’t a chore at all and we were having a great time on set. It’s so true! Austin is a great town, I had the best tofu scramble ever this morning. We’ve had so many great experiences leaving our NYC mark on Texas. I’ll tell you all about it later but right now I gotta catch some ZZZs cause I gotta drive Adam and the principal cast to a radio interview in a few hours!
Gimme The Loot @ SXSW Day 5 & 6
We won the grand jury prize! What a dream come true. Hi, my name is Sam and I play the character of Lenny in “Gimme The Loot”. You know, writer-director Adam Leon keeps pointing out how much fun we had making this film. I guess that plays a part in the tears of joy streaming down my cheeks in the moments after the ceremony ended. I hadn’t expected to experience that level of emotion, sure a fist pump - some pats on the back, but when it happened I felt so overwhelmingly happy for everyone on our team. I assume everyone with a film at SXSW must feel validated, but being awarded the top honor made us ecstatic. Working with this group of people was an exciting ride. We knew we were making good art and it feels so gosh darn good to have that sentiment shared by our peers as well as respected scholars of cinema.
